Joined
Dunlop G.R.G. Division in Manchester in November 1953 and began
training as technical assistant in the physical testing, chemical
and compounding laboratories over a four year period. After completing
a 2 year internal management course he held several positions as
foreman in the mechanical moulding and fabric coatings departments.
In
1964 he was responsible for the commissioning of a new GRG Division
factory in Skelmersdale transferring the offset blanket manufacturing
processing equipment and labour.
In
September 1966 to June 1969 he repeated the commissioning exercise,
this time in Chicago USA under a licensing agreement with the Bingham
Roller Company to manufacture offset blankets.
After
working for 30 years in the rubber industry with Dunlop Ltd he transferred
his interests to the offset printing industry joining a consumables
supply company as technical manager until he retired in 1997,when
he formed a technical consultancy.
Now
semi-retired, he still maintains 5 clients in the UK, Italy, Hungary,
Germany and Japan.
